The Controller is responsible for all day-to-day financial and fiscal management aspects of company’s financial operations including the administrative, business planning, accounting, compliance, process improvement, AP, AR, financial reporting and budgeting efforts of the company reporting to the CFO. The Controller manages a team of three that work closely with the GM’s of our two business units.

The finance team supports both sides of our business, and it is important that this person understands both the digital media financial model as well as the SaaS financial model. The Controller will need to also support any Devada-wide financial consolidation and any relevant shared services that sit within the finance function. The Controller will prepare and distribute financial statements for internal and external reporting requirements with accompanying commentary and opportunities. The Controller will manage relationships with bankers, auditors and investors.

We have recently moved to a flexible workplace where employees currently work in a hybrid model with the ability to work 100% remote as well as in the Raleigh-Durham office for local employees. We expect that this position would be in the Raleigh-Durham office a few days a week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees the management of the General Ledger and coordination of all internal and external financial reporting.
  • Manage the company financial policies and procedures and GAAP compliance efforts.
  • Partner with business unit heads to create, update and review budget vs. actual variances and act as Finance Business Partner to the two business units. Report on relevant KPIs and business ratios and ways for improvement.
  • Active Cash Management including AP, AR, Debt, International matters, Cost Management & Treasury in accordance with financial plan and policies.
  • Active expense management – proactively looking around corners for cost saving opportunities.
  • Manages Tax functions including Federal, State & International income tax, sales/use/property/withholding tax compliance in conjunction with outside tax providers.
  • Oversee the coordination and activities of independent auditors and the preparation of the monthly financial statements is in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Manage the Company’s FP&A process including the annual budgeting cycle and monthly forecasting updates.
  • Actively drive financial systems process enhancements and documentation.
  • Comfortable with all aspects of the Finance & Accounting function: all the way from AP/AR, Treasury to Financial Statements, Budgeting and getting involved in the Operational side of the business.
  • Remain current on technical accounting literature to identify/assess possible changes to the Company’s Accounting policies and practices.
  • Managing the Company’s PEO and employee benefits relationships
  • Knowledge of Quote to cash process a plus.



  • Proficiency with GAAP regulations including media and software bookings and revenue recognition.
  • Strong analytical and planning skills (FP&A) with ability to model in Excel
  • Good written/verbal communication.
  • Good interpersonal and people skills.
  • Ability to coach, develop and mentor the 3 direct reports.
  • Solid team player.
  • Ability to work in fast paced/many hats environment.
  • Self-starter.     

Education and/or Experience

  • BA required (Accounting and/or Finance ideal).
  • CPA ideal but not required.
  • At least 8 years of experience.
  • Ideal candidate with have at least 2 years with an independent accounting firm although this is not required.
  • Some private industry experience with Media and SaaS/Software high-growth start-up company is a plus.
  • Experience with Quick Books, Excel and CRM system will be useful.
  • Tech/software background preferred but not required.



  • Reports to experienced CFO who is willing to provide mentoring and is committed to professional growth of the person.
  • Strong relationship with the two Business Unit heads as well as CFO and CEO will be imperative.
